“…the realisation that each random passerby is living a life as vivid and complex as your own; an epic story that continues invisibly around you…”
Sonder is an observation of a modern, hidden and complex socialising mechanism of the relationships between men living and working in inner-city hostels and compounds of Johannesburg – an exploration of social and cultural representations of alternative masculinities and male-ness in a post-apartheid South Africa.
A multi-media dance theatre piece, Sonder will challenge audiences to think critically about the ways in which masculinity is constructed and performed, with the potential to spark a much-needed conversation about gender and its role in society.
