Autophagies is an immersive theatre spectacle, combining elements of dance, text, video, music, and cooking on stage. It ventures between Africa, Europe, Asia and the Americas where these ingredients come together for a great celebration of the senses. With this “documentary Eucharist” show, director Eva Doumbia encourages the audience to think about the political dimension of food. With humour and tenderness, Doumbia challenges common preconceptions to change what we think of as “established fact.” Following its premiere in Avignon, 2021, Autophagies made its English-language debut in New Orleans in 2023, followed by a tour to New York City.
