Afrocartography is a multi-platform project inspired by Mwenya Kabwe’s 2013 choreopoem, with themes of migration and displacement across the African continent.
Set in a timeless dreamscape, we journey into metaphoric worlds full of hope, contradiction, baggage, hurt, mystery, and curiosity guided by the Traveller. Our guide helps us navigate through dreaming, memory, and imagination, where we meet the Mapmaker, the Afropolitan and the Afrosettler.
Afrocartography, a choreopoem, fuses heightened text, stylized movement, and striking vocal language. From 2007 – 2013 has Afrocartography been performed in Cape Town, Johannesburg, and Barcelona.
