Afronauts is an unforgettable narrative that unfolded during Zambia’s struggle for independence in the ’60’s. . Afronauts were a group of visionary individuals who aspired to create a Zambia characterised by freedom, achievement, and commitment to their nation and humanity. Themes include patriotism, pursuit of dreams, and the battle against gender inequality.
Colonel Nkoloso led the Afronauts, nurturing a dream of journeying to the moon through rigorous training. Martha Mwamba was an exception to this group of men. Her commitment to become the first woman in space was fuelled by her mathematical prowess and her ability to surmount any obstacle in her path.
Circus Zambia, founded in 2015, is a cutting edge contemporary company, blending traditional and modern performance, creating powerful physical, story-driven shows. Afronauts was showcased at South Africa’s Makhanda Festival. Other work includes Chibolya Side Story; Boxed and Golden Memories.
