Unbreakable is an exciting collaboration between Soweto Skeleton Movers, Rotterdam choreographer, Lloyd Marengo and London-based theatre director, Jonzi D. Through a combination of playfulness, high-spirited African dance, humour and impressive visuals, Jabulani, Topollo, Junior, Lerato and Molefi tell their own life stories. Despite the setbacks and various temptations that crossed their paths over the years, these five dancers are ‘unbreakable’.
The audience is taken on a joyful journey that mixes songs, street scenes, compelling visuals and their own ‘skeleton pantsula’ – a combination of traditional South African street dance and ‘bone-breaking’. This takes place against the background of a contemporary soundtrack of melodic afro-house tunes and pumping amapiano beats. Since going to London to work with Jonzi D, the group has toured the world with their show, Seven. Unbreakable was developed with Jonzi D and choreographer Lloy Mazengo and it premiered in London in 2023, when it toured extensively.
