This Is New Brighton: 100 YearsPitchflo creative (formerly urbanflo creative)UK

This Is New Brighton’ is an intercultural theatre production co-created across three continents. The evolving work links Brighton (UK), New Brighton (South Africa), and Brighton (Barbados) through shared colonial histories, intergenerational memory, and creative exchange. Local communities engage through storytelling, song, archival materials, and performance. Artists and communities collaborate to unearth overlooked histories and reimagine connections across place, time, and culture.

The development involves a transnational dramaturgy lab at PACE. The artists are developing narrative, experimenting with form, and exploring new creative strategies in dialogue with South African participants.

Our vision is for global partnerships, festival touring, and international co-commissioning. This project invites producers, cultural programmers, and funders to join a bold conversation about shared legacies, reparative storytelling, and intercultural practice.

Flo Creative (formerly Urbanflo Creative) has over 20 years of creative collaboration, community co-creation, talent development and international exchange. With 80+ cultural events delivered in the last 2 years, our practice consistently centres marginalised voices.

In partnership with artist and academic Vian Roos, flo creative developed This Is New Brighton International Exhibition Series, now evolved into This Is New Brighton: 100 Years - the theatre production being pitched and developed at PACE.
