Dervish Productions brings together the skills and knowledge of artists, historians, museums and the community to create a unique promenade drama, based on original archival research. Spirits of the Black Meridian brings to life the hidden stories of Global Majority pioneers from the 18thC to present day, whose lives reshaped our culture, cities and world view forever. The production breathes life into the submerged voices of the enslaved, freemen and women, sailors, political agitators, adventurers, and colonial subjects who came and settled in the UK. The production connects us today to the historical movements and underrepresented people whose impact and agency shaped the society, culture, architecture and public spaces of the world we inhabit.
These are the ‘spirits’ who walk alongside us, unseen.
Dervish Productions was founded in 2012 by writer, director and political activist, Hassan Mahamdallie, for diverse creatives to explore themes relevant to 21stCentury audiences in ‘amplifying voices from the edge’.
