A digital sound installation in 4 movements for 55 digital voices in the 11 South African languages with 11 infrasound voices, and a digitised Khoekhoegowab duet prologue.
LV/xi celebrates the diversity and cultural richness of humanity through South African languages. Too many voices try to drive people apart – we no longer celebrate our strength through diversity. And yet… diversity is what allows species, cultures, and systems to survive, adapt, and thrive.
The work explores the concept of disruption: the majority of listeners will not be familiar with the languages or text, and the digital voices’ limitations disrupt even familiar languages.
