Woza Wenties!: A semi-autobiographical solo. Sookool traces the erasure of her experience of blackness through various colonially-informed institutions. Wenties is Wentworth, her home-town in Durban, a so-called coloured township. Woza = come, reflects her mission to re-centre her subjectives through artistic practice. Using visual, theatrical and improvisational devices, her body signifies a body under duress, in pursuit of freedom. The work has been presented in Durban, Mozambique, UK and Germany.
"3 Mense Phakathi":
Sookool offers a trio that has become a conversation about power relations, perceivable within South African civil society and dance itself. The three dancers embody a call for "power to the people" through choreographic choices that allow them to be seen, first as humans, and second as humans with the power of choice. The work first premiered at the National Arts Festival in 2024 as the choreographer's award for the Standard Bank Young Artist for Dance.
